【电视剧总271期】霍建华专访 TV Series, issue 271, interview with Wallace Huo: In 2012 I was surprised and happy that the first one who said happy new year over the phone to me turned out to be Wallace Huo. I was surprised before I started to ask questions, he said let’s had an unofficial interview. I was surprised that he sincerely put down his own status and sincerely praised other people. After the interview, I had this naïve thought: only if I watch the show just for Wallace, still worth it. Acting is about giving up I was first attracted by the theme of the play because it’s a show about doctors, which is new to me. Secondly, I had played too many ancient dramas, which emphasized more on ‘acting’. I always appeared as ancient heroes, which I didn’t find new challenges anymore. I wanted to play a common person in a modern medical drama, using a practical acting method to shape the role. I wanted to see what kind of effect would come out if I didn’t use much “acting” to play the role. I wanted to change my acting method. These are the two reasons why I considered this drama at the first place. Being shocked by Wang Because of time constraint, I didn’t particularly go to experience a doctor life in the hospital. But I did have experience from going to the hospital. My knowledge of physicians is about intuitive understanding. In fact, I didn’t have the confidence at all. When I saw Mr Wang Zhi Wen I was shocked. He really looked like a doctor, which came out from him naturally. When the stills were out I was totally shocked. I remembered when I started shooting I was under extreme pressure. So I took the initiative to approach him. I actively went through the screen lines with him. He was patient and practiced with me over and over again. He’s my role model. Great pressure from being a heart surgeon I worked in a heart surgery department. This department worked under pressure more than the rest of the departments because it was high risk. A mistake to tiny nerve or tiny blood vessel could cause unpredictable results, which could cause the life of a patient. This type of cardiac surgery needed skillful doctors with a wealth of experience and excellent medical skills. It’s inevitable to work under extreme pressure but the pay was also higher. I also knew some medical dramas, such as the previous “ER” drama. I didn’t think much before I accepted this drama, just believed it’s quite suitable. But I was a bit scared after finishing the drama. The requirements for a medical drama are particularly stringent. Fortunately I just concentrated on the acting without thinking much about other things while filming for this drama. But now I’m scared. I must be careful to deal with dramas with a similar serious theme. If anything went wrong it would become a joke to the audiences. A character without particular characteristics Likes me Han Zi Hang is a very common person. His love life is also common in the drama. He met an intern and found her not bad and gradually became lovers. There were no twists and turns in their love lives. As a doctor, Han Zi Hang was calm and rational when facing the death of his patients. I tried to withhold my emotions during the process of performing. A doctor should try his greatest efforts to resolve problem, too much emotions should be avoided. Han Zhi Hang had no prominent characteristics, especially as compared to my previous characters. This was the reason I chose him. I wanted to know how to play a character without prominent personal characteristics. A role without prominent personal characteristics was also the most difficult to play. ![]()
